BRIEF: New Bloomfield man arrested on sexual abuse charges

Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson filed child sexual abuse charges against Robert Joseph Pope, 31, of New Bloomfield on June 4, according to a press release.

The charges include: eight counts of first-degree statutory sodomy, first-degree child molestation, victim tampering, sexual misconduct involving a child and enticement of a child.

An arrest warrant with a cash-only bond of $100,000 was issued that same day. Pope was located in Moniteau County and taken into custody. On June 5, he was extradited to the Callaway County Jail.

The Callaway County Sheriff's Office launched the investigation on March 26 and found that two juvenile victims were involved.
