Fulton's Gas Plus serviced its last car yesterday before closing up shop for good.

Three employees ran the service station and were responsible for pumping gas, running cards for payment and cleaning windows which, former manager Jim Bratten said greatly helped the elderly and physically disabled.

Gas Plus maintenance man Dan Nunn was at one of the closed stations in Rolla when an elderly customer pulled in for service. He followed her to a gas station nearby to show her how to pump gas as it wasn't something she had ever done before, he said.

The Jefferson City location was closed yesterday as well - all the Missouri locations of Gas Plus will close for service as each station runs out of fuel, Nunn said. He is responsible for turning off the pumps and closing every Gas Plus location in Missouri.

Locations in Rolla, Springfield, Lebanon and Belle have already closed.

"When I show up, they shut down," Nunn said. "It's like watching a friend die," he added.

Dave Wormack, the pump attendant, and Bratten provided treats for children and dogs who were along for the ride while the car was getting serviced. They also decorated the station during holiday seasons and provided season appropriate treats for customers. Yesterday, Wormack was offering popsicles to customers as he pumped their gas.

"You'll never find another place like this," Wormack said.

Bratten was told July 9 that the Fulton location would be closing, but it wasn't until Nunn drove up to the station Wednesday that Bratten knew the doors would close in a matter of hours.

The owners of Gas Plus were not available for comment.
