Annual Truck and Tractor Pull scheduled in Auxvasse

The Auxvasse Lions Club will host its 34th annual Truck and Tractor Pull Friday, July 17.

The event will start at 7 p.m. at the Lions Club Park in Auxvasse and will feature members of the Missouri Farm Pullers, according to a press release.

Fifteen classes will be featured at the event - a single truck class, which is for 4x4 Street Stock trucks at 6,200 pounds. The remaining classes are for competing tractors:

• 6,500-12,500 pound tractors (increasing at a rate of 1,000 pounds) at 8 mph,

• 6,500 and 7,500 pound tractors at 10 mph and

• 8,500-12,500 pound tractors (increasing at a rate of 1,000 pounds) at 12.5 mph, Chairman of the Truck and Tractor Pull Committee Jackie Burton said.

The tractor pull requires drivers to travel the furthest on their tractor while bearing the weight placed on a mechanical sled that attaches at the back of the tractor, President of the Missouri Farm Pullers Tim Brammer said. Tractors in certain classes cannot travel faster than their specified speed limit, otherwise they are disqualified from the competition. Each driver has 100 feet to get their tractor and speed under control and then continue traveling until the weight from the sled stops the tractor or until the driver reaches the end of the track.

"We put a speed limit to make it more competitive and more fair for everyone," Brammer said.

Other regulations and rules also apply to drivers during the competition.

Tickets for the event are $10, but children under 10 will be admitted free of charge. Refreshments will be available during the event, including beverages from a Busch Beer Garden.

Proceeds raised during the event will benefit various sight-related projects including the Missouri Lions Saving Sight programs, Leader Dog and the Lions Clubs International SightFirst program.
