The Callaway Bank has appointed Mike Basnett as its new board chairman following the retirement of Overton T. Harris.

His plan is to follow in Harris's footsteps and keep the bank grounded in the community.

"I think the whole board is interested in keeping the bank a community bank that won't be swallowed up by big investment bankers and continue to serve the community," Basnett said. "We want to work for the shareholders so that they're proud of the bank and get a return on their investment."

Basnett, who has been a board member since 1993, graduated from Fulton High School in 1971. He then went on to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia and the school of dentistry at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, according to a press release.

He returned to Fulton in 1979 to open up his dental practice on Sixth Street and has since served on the Fulton School Board and Fulton Colleges Board of Associates. He has also coached youth sports participated in the Kingdom of Callaway Supper and church activities, according to the release.

Currently, he is spending time as a part of the Mizzou Alumni Association and the Fulton Schools Foundation, according to the release.
