Westminster men's losing streak extends to nine

Junior forward Matt Murphy and freshman guard Jaime Villalobos each paced the Blue Jays with eight points in their 75-48 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to the Gorlok on Saturday.

Westminster (2-15, 1-9 SLIAC) saw its losing streak extended to nine games.

The Blue Jays shot 32 percent (19-of-59) from the field and were unable to bounce back from a 32-22 halftime deficit.

Sophomore guard Jay Zalis posted six points, while senior guard Verdis Lee Jr. - a Fulton High graduate - collected a team-high six rebounds.

Aaron Griffin notched 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead Webster (11-6, 7-3 SLIAC). Adam Etter scored 15 points and CJ Moore added 10 as the Gorlok were 43 percent (23-of-54) from the field.

Hunter Ward hauled in 11 rebounds as Webster outgained Westminster on the glass 46-29.

The Blue Jays return home for a SLIAC tilt against Principia (Illinois) College at 8 tonight. Westminster bowed to the Panthers 75-57 on Jan. 6 in Elsah, Illinois.
