Owls, Lady Owls both place third at Illinois College

The William Woods men's and women's track teams each notched third-place team showings at the Illinois College Snowbird Open on Saturday.

The Owls amassed 61 points, trailing only Lincoln University (85) and Lincoln College (67). The Lady Owls totaled 88 points, only bested by Lincoln College (186) and Central Methodist (88.5).

Senior Nick Zink prevailed in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 50.83 seconds. Junior Rhett Cook competed in the same race, clocking a fourth-place time of :51.19.

Junior Gabriel Dos Santos placed third in the 60-meter dash with a result of :07.12. The distance medley team of Zink, freshmen Kyle Gabrielson and Phillip Kuplinksi and sophomore Timothy Ward finished fourth in 11:35.1.

Senior Alonzo Findley was the runner-up in the shot put with a heave of 13.86 meters. Junior Adam Smith earned third place in the weight throw with a personal-best result of 14.2 meters.

Senior Lee Anna Sanders earned top honors in the 3000-meter, crossing the finish line in 11:03.93.

Freshman Madelyn Scrivner (11.68 meters) prevailed in the women's shot put, while freshman teammate Rachel Barker (11.28) took second. Barker (11.84) placed third in the weight throw, a spot ahead of Scrivner (11.47).

Junior Petra Bethea earned fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:35.7, while senior Madeline Emme ran a fourth-place time of :09.45 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Redshirt senior Alex Apperson, sophomore Hannah Corbin and freshmen Loren Brooks and Megan Wilson ran a third-place time of 4:23.62 in the 4x800-meter relay. Sophomore Sarah McRae, freshmen Stephane Clawson, Jessica McIlhenny and Jenn Strosnider took third in the 4x200-meter relay with a result of 2:01.12.

Both teams will compete at the Principia College Relays at 1 p.m. Friday in Elsah, Illinois.
