Hagedorn, North Callaway boys top Montgomery County

Senior guard Brandon Hagedorn's career-high 21 points helped trigger the No. 8 seed Thunderbirds' 65-58 victory over the No. 4 Wildcats on Thursday night in the consolation semifinals of the South Callaway Invitational Tournament.

North Callaway (3-9) overcame a 25-22 halftime deficit by outscoring Montgomery County 43-33 in the second half. The Thunderbirds had defeated the Wildcats 64-51 in Eastern Missouri Conference play Jan. 9 in Montgomery City.

Hagedorn guided four players in double figures Thursday night for North Callaway, which was playing without senior forward Steven Coleman - the team's leading rebounder and second-leading scorer - who was sick.

Senior forward Michael Pezold also provided 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Thunderbirds, while freshman guard Coy Danison came off the bench to score all 12 of his points in the second half. Junior guard Manzell Payne contributed 10 points.

"We're improving every game," North Callaway head coach Matt Thomas said. "The team picked it up minus one of its starters (Coleman)."

Chase Parrish broke out for a game-high 32 points to lead Montgomery County (5-8), while Kyle Kroll had 12.

The Thunderbirds will face either No. 6 seed New Haven or No. 7 Russellville for fifth place at 7:30 tonight at the high school.
