A dominant second-quarter showing pushed the Ladybirds to a decisive 51-32 victory over the rival Lady Bulldogs on Saturday.
North Callaway snapped the five-game win streak of South Callaway (7-3).
The Ladybirds led 14-10 after one quarter, but clamped down on the Lady Bulldogs with a 17-4 outburst in the second. North Callaway senior guard Elaine Brinker was the catalyst for North Callaway, logging nine of her game-high 15 points in the second period to push her team to a 31-14 halftime lead.
"We were just plagued with turnovers; we did not make smart decisions and couldn't get our offense moving in the right direction," South Callaway head coach Darren Humphrey said.
Brinker connected on 6-of-6 field goal attempts and chipped in team highs of six steals and five assists. Freshman guard Kyla Bertschinger scored 10 points - including all four of her free-throw attempts - and pulled down five rebounds.
Ladybirds junior guards Maddie Ausfahl and Erinn Bush each posted eight points, while junior forward Bethany Bloss tallied six points and a team-high six rebounds.
"It was a good job on the defensive part," Ladybirds head coach Matt Miller said. "Everyone got to play and they played well.
"It's always good to win a rivalry game."
Sophomore forward Konnor Arrowood led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points. Freshman point guard Adrian Mann finished with nine points.
North Callaway edged by South Callaway 32-30 in the junior varsity game. Skylar Schmauch scored six of her team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Ladybirds (6-3).
Ashley Potter paced the Lady Bulldogs (4-2) with a game-high 15 points.
South Callaway - seeded No. 6 in the South Callaway Tournament - played No. 3 Hermann in a first-round game on Monday. Results were not available at press time.
