Owls down Harris-Stowe, halt five-game losing streak

Junior guard Jarett Boss came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points and the William Woods University Owls stopped a five-game losing streak with Tuesday night's 65-56 AMC triumph over the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets at Anderson Arena.

William Woods was only up 27-26 at halftime, but outscored Harris-Stowe 11-3 over the final 1 minute, 53 seconds to seal the victory. The Owls are now 5-10 on the season and 2-5 in the American Midwest Conference, while the Hornets slipped to 2-11 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

Boss was 6-of-10 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and made 5-of-9 free throws to guide three players in double figures for William Woods, which shot 42 percent (24-of-57) as a team and committed 14 turnovers. Sophomore guard Ryan Hill contributed 13 points and junior forward TaiRhe Turner had a career-high 10.

Turner also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds as both teams finished with 36 rebounds.

The Owls weathered a game-high 27-point effort from Harris-Stowe's Tony Flagg, who connected on 10-of-14 shots, 3-of-4 attempts from 3-point range and 4-of-5 free throws. Jalen Fletcher followed with 13 points and Randy Brown provided 12 as the Hornets shot just 39 percent (20-of-51) from the field and piled up 19 turnovers.

William Woods remains at home for a SLIAC contest against St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 7:30 tonight.
