Westminster men's skid continues in loss to MacMurray

The Blue Jays were outscored 44-32 in the second half of their 76-64 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to the Highlanders on Saturday.

The teams were tied 32-all to start the second half, but a layup by sophomore forward Tanner Gentges gave Westminster a 41-40 edge with 16 minutes, 1 second to go. MacMurray responded with a 10-3 run over the next 4:51 to pull ahead 50-44.

The Blue Jays (2-9, 1-3 SLIAC) trailed by as many as 10 points late in the game as they dropped a third game in a row.

Junior forward Kellen Brondel led Westminster with 13 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Tanner Cochran added 12 points and junior forward Matt Murphy added 11.

Senior guard Verdis Lee Jr. - a Fulton graduate - scored 10 points off the bench as the Blue Jays finished 46 percent from the field (22-of-48).

Clayton Whitlock guided the Highlanders with a game-high 20 points. Forward Hunter Sutton notched a double-double of 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Deavis Johnson added 12 points off the bench.

MacMurray (2-9, 2-2 SLIAC) shot 48 percent from the floor (31-of-65), while outrebounding Westminster 41-27.

Westminster welcomes Principia for a SLIAC game at 8 tonight.
