New Bloomfield girls top Russellville for fifth straight win

Freshman guard Madi Craighead's game-high 20 points pushed the Lady Wildcats to a decisive 58-25 win over the Lady Indians in their Show-Me Conference opener on Monday night.

New Bloomfield (8-2, 1-0 SMC) stretched its current win streak to five games.

The Lady Wildcats played their usual stifling brand of defense, carrying a 33-16 lead into halftime. New Bloomfield outscored Russellville 12-9 in the third quarter, then held them scoreless over the final 8 minutes.

"We came out and we just made them make some mistakes and we kept our intensity up the whole game," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "We didn't have one of those "let up' quarters; we played four quarters intensely on defense."

Lady Wildcats senior forward Ashley Kelley tallied 15 points. Senior guard Sydni Bedsworth finished with eight points, while sophomore guard Baylee Garrett totaled seven.

Justice Miller led the Lady Indians with 14 points.

New Bloomfield continued its undefeated JV start with a 20-6 triumph through two quarters. Sophomore forward Madison Love scored 11 points for New Bloomfield (4-0).

The Lady Wildcats have a varsity-only SMC tilt at St. Elizabeth at 6 tonight.
