Bulldogs topple SMC foe St. Elizabeth to stay perfect

Hentges, Smith each log 16 points as South Callaway moves to 8-0

On a night where the South Callaway Bulldogs' offense wasn't at its best according to head coach Tony Brandt, the defense did more than its fair share to keep them undefeated.

The Bulldogs' harassing defensing resulted in 25 turnovers by the St. Elizabeth Hornets in a 66-41 Show-Me Conference triumph on Friday night.

South Callaway (8-0, 3-0 SMC) led 18-11 after the first quarter, but really built its advantage in the middle frames. The Bulldogs took a 28-18 lead into halftime, then erupted for a 21-4 third-quarter spurt to lead 49-22 entering the fourth.

South Callaway senior guard Troy Hentges and senior forward Jacob Smith each logged a game-high 16 points.

Senior forward Luke Horstman had eight points and led the Bulldogs with six rebounds. Senior forward Harold Woods scored eight and totaled five rebounds, while senior guard Dax Helsel totaled seven points and matched Smith with a team-high three steals.

Senior guard Terry Miles contributed six points and two blocks.

Wyatt Stiles and Braydon Holtmeyer supplied 14 and 12 points, respectively to guide the Hornets.

"We got solid contributions from all 10 players tonight," Brandt said. "Our energy was up and guys were feeding off each other on the defensive end."

South Callaway continued its perfect JV start with a 54-43 win.

Kaden Helsel and Blake Parker each supplied 18 points to lead the Bulldogs (7-0).

South Callaway plays at rival North Callaway at 6 p.m. Monday.
