Fulton, Missouri Department of Conservation offers solutions for Christmas tree disposal

With the holidays in the past, there might be Christmas trees still lingering in living rooms, and the city of Fulton has disposal solutions.

Christmas trees can be dropped off in the yard waste collection at the Fulton fire stations on Westminster Avenue and Tennyson Road, according to the city's public information officer Darin Wernig. Fulton residents can also leave their Christmas trees at the curb for regular trash pickup at no charge. All decorations, including tinsel, must be removed from the trees because it will eventually be turned into mulch, Wernig said.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has also provided ways for Christmas trees to be recycled and utilized as a fish habitat. Attach an anchor of some sort to the end of a tree and place it into a pond or lake, according to the agency's website. Place small brush piles near one another. This will create a larger habitat, the website states.

Live Christmas trees can also be placed in backyards "to offer cover for wildlife, or under bird feeders to provide nesting locations in the branches." Chipping and mulching the wood is also an option, according to the MDC.
