William Woods men bow to NCAA Division II Missouri S&T

Sophomore guard Ryan Hill logged 15 points to pace the Owls in a 98-76 exhibition loss to the NCAA Division II Miners on Wednesday.

Hill finished 6-of-12 from the floor, while connecting on 1-of-3 from 3-point range as William Woods went 46 percent (27-of-59) from the field.

The Owls (4-9) trailed 38-31 at the half, but were outgained 60-45 after the break to tumble. William Woods committed 36 turnovers, directly leading to 44 points for Missouri S&T.

Owls senior forward Derrick Hayes collected a double-double, scoring 12 points and leading the team with 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Darrien Dickey posted 12 points and grabbed five rebounds, while senior forward Nate Bitner collected 11 points.

William Woods outrebounded the Miners 44-39.

Juwan Miller sparked Missouri S&T with game highs of 20 points and eight assists. Zach Ellis finished with 15 points and Curtis Okafor added 14 points and a team-leading seven rebounds. Clement Bonardo scored 10 points as the Miners finished 44 percent (30-of-68) from the field.

Hill's 11 points led the Owls as they bowed on the road 64-53 to the NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist University Bobcats on Tuesday in Bolivar.

Junior forward DJ Johnson was the only other William Woods player in double figures, posting 10 points as the Owls hit 37 percent (18-of-49) from the floor. Bitner tallied six points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for William Woods.

The Owls trailed 39-26 at the break, but used an 11-0 run to get to within 56-50 with 3 minutes, 10 seconds left.

Menas Stephens sparked the Bobcats with game highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Southwest Baptist finished 34 percent (21-of-61) from the floor, while outrebounding William Woods 51-37.

The Owls play an American Midwest Conference game at Lindenwood University-Belleville at 4 p.m. Saturday.
