South Callaway boys throttle California in District 8 semifinals

The third-seeded Bulldogs stunned the state-ranked, No. 2 seed Pintos by outscoring them 22-2 in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's 60-34 triumph in the Class 3, District 8 semifinals.

South Callaway (23-2) was up 17-12 after one quarter, but California outscored the Bulldogs 15-10 in the second quarter to tie the game at 27-all at halftime. South Callaway outscored California 11-5 in the third quarter to go back in front 38-32, then pulled away by punishing the Pintos over the final 8 minutes.

Further details from Thursday night's game were not available at press time. California - ranked No. 10 in the state - ended its season at 22-4.

The Bulldogs will face top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Father Tolton (25-2) in a showdown for the District 8 championship at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tolton tolerated No. 5 seed Southern Boone's slowdown strategy before closing out a 40-23 semifinal victory.
