William Woods women best Park in AMC comeback win

The Lady Owls erased a 17-point second-half deficit to outlast the Lady Pirates 65-60 in American Midwest Conference play in Saturday's home finale at Anderson Arena.

William Woods (20-7, 16-6 AMC) won for a fourth straight game.

Ahead 33-28 at halftime, Park used a half-opening 12-0 spurt to build its 17-point cushion. Lady Owls sophomore forward Kelsey Scherder's free throws with 2 minutes, 10 seconds left completed a 16-5 run to give William Woods a 57-56 edge.

The Lady Owls prevailed despite its meager 29 percent (17-of-58) showing from the field. William Woods junior forward Nia Lateju tied the game-high with 17 points. Senior guard Blake French scored 13 points, eclipsing 1,000 for her career.

Senior guard Destani Stensrud also tallied 13 points, while Scherder finished with 11 points .

The Lady Owls play an AMC game at Columbia College at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
