Lady Wildcats topple Vienna in Class 2, District 8 opener

A good start to the game helped the New Bloomfield Lady Wildcats get off to a good start in district play.

The No. 2 seed Lady Wildcats used a 19-2 first-quarter lead in cruising to a 64-22 thrashing of No. 7 Vienna Lady Eagles in their Class 2, District 8 opener on Monday night at Russellville High School.

New Bloomfield (21-5) will play either No. 3 Iberia or No. 6 Calvary Lutheran in one semifinal at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The Lady Wildcats built on their hot start to take a 38-8 lead into halftime.

"We did what we wanted to do; I wanted them to get off to a good start," New Bloomfield head coach Brett Craighead said. "...That was the goal and we'd been struggling with the start the last couple of games and we did that."

Senior forward Taylor Howard paced the Lady Wildcats with 13 points. Freshman guard Madi Craighead added 12 points, while senior guard Sydni Bedsworth logged 10.

Sophomore guard Baylee Garrett chipped in with nine points.

Sloan Snodgrass led the Lady Eagles with a game-high 15 points.
