'Art is Ageless' exhibition displays artwork of senior citizens

Local senior citizens will showcase their art work at Fulton Presbyterian Manor's "Art is Ageless" exhibition Feb. 25-27.

The event is sponsored in 18 of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America facilities throughout Missouri and Kansas, according to a press release from the not-for-profit organization. The art exhibition is a way to display the diverse backgrounds of seniors in a community, the release states, and "reaffirms the agelessness of human creativity."

According to the release, studies have proven seniors who participate in fine arts have better health, more positive attitudes and more active lifestyles than those who are not active artists. Seniors 65 and older - those living at Fulton Presbyterian Manor and those who are not - will be featured. Mediums may include acrylics, oils, photography and more by professional and amateur artists.

"It's inspiring to see the beautiful pieces these seniors have created," said Fulton Presbyterian Manor Marketing Director Keri Edwards. "The joy it brings to them and others is wonderful, and that's something we want to celebrate and share with the broader Fulton community."

Judges will award prizes to seniors who displayed the most talent. They will be honored at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 during a reception. The public is welcome to view the pieces 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Feb. 25-27.

Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America publishes an Art is Ageless calendar yearly, the release states, and the proceeds go toward new art programs and opportunities for residents.
