Every February, area residents come together to share a meal, some laughs and maybe a card game or two.

Feb. 23-28th marks the 55th Annual Loafer's Week at the Auxvasse Community Hall - an event some describe as a community reunion.

"It's just for old friends to catch up and play cards," said Mary Blevins, treasurer and secretary of the Auxvasse Community Building Association. "It's just something we do every year for the community."

In keeping with tradition, the Auxvasse Community Hall will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, with a noon meal served each day by an area organization:

•Monday, Feb. 23, Auxvasse Presbyterian Church will serve roast beef for $7;

•Tuesday, Feb. 24, the Mexico Go Gitters Relay for Life will serve pork loin for $7;

•Wednesday, Feb. 25, is pot luck day. Attendees can bring their favorite dish or dessert for $7;

•Thursday, Feb. 26, the Auxvasse Senior Center will serve ham and beans for $8;

•Friday, Feb. 27, Relay for Life of Callaway County will serve sloppy joes for $7; and

•Saturday, Feb. 28, the Auxvasse Lion's Club will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. through noon for $7.

Each day, attendees can sign their meal tickets for a drawing for two $25 cash gifts donated by United Security Bank and car wash tokens donated by Bob's Car Wash in Fulton.

Blevins invited area residents to help carry on the Loafer's Week tradition.

"Come have a meal, and have a good time and catch up," she said.
