Schmauch's career high leads North Callaway girls past Mark Twain

Junior guard Skylar Schmauch came off the bench to provide a career-high 16 points, helping fuel the Ladybirds' 69-31 EMO thrashing of the Lady Tigers on Tuesday night.

North Callaway (16-7, 8-1 Eastern Missouri Conference) was only up 15-14, but outscored Mark Twain 24-5 in the second quarter to build a commanding 39-19 advantage at halftime. The Ladybirds continued to pull away by outscoring the Lady Tigers 30-12 in the second half.

Schmauch finished 7-of-8 from the field, making both of her 3-point attempts, in guiding three players in double figures for North Callaway. Senior guard Elaine Brinker logged a double-double with 14 points and 16 assists, while also coming up with eight steals.

Junior guard Erinn Bush chipped in with 11 points and shared the team lead in rebounding with freshman guard Kyla Bertschinger, both with seven.

"After a slow start, we played great defense the rest of the game," Ladybirds head coach Matt Miller said. "Our shots started to fall and we played our best offensive game of the season, and we had great ball movement."

Kaelee Ogle scored eight of her team-high 12 points in the first quarter for Mark Twain (10-14, 4-5). McKenzie Lathrom followed with 10 points.

North Callaway travels to Tipton - ranked No. 4 in Class 2 - for a non-conference contest at 6 tonight.
