William Woods women top Lindenwood-Belleville, snap skid

The Lady Owls carried a 47-37 second-half scoring edge in their 80-65 American Midwest Conference triumph over the Lady Lynx on Saturday at Anderson Arena.

The victory snapped a two-game losing skid for William Woods (17-7, 13-6 AMC).

The Lady Owls held a 33-28 lead at halftime, stretching its advantage to as many as 14 points in the second half.

Sophomore forward Kelsey Scherder paced William Woods off the bench with a career-high 13 points. Sophomore center Kennedy Volkart added 12 points, while senior guard Destani Stensrud finished with 11.

Senior guard Dennisha Rice added 10 points as the Lady Owls shot 49 percent (26-of-53) from the floor and hit 7-of-14 3-pointers.

William Woods junior guard Julia Wells finished with nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds, vaulting the Lady Owls to a 32-29 edge on the glass.

Shelby Kohrmann tallied a game-high 18 points to lead Lindenwood-Belleville (15-11, 14-6 AMC).

Kindra Brown and Stephanie Cathcart each scored 10 points, helping the Lady Lynx go 45 percent (22-of-49) from the field.

With the win, William Woods avenged a 73-72 loss in the two team's last meeting on Jan. 3 in Belleville, Illinois.

The Lady Owls hit the road for a conference clash at Harris-Stowe State University at 5:30 p.m. today. William Woods bowed to the Lady Hornets 69-62 on Jan. 6 in Fulton.
