Westminster women best Eureka for ninth straight win

The Lady Blue Jays shot just under 50 percent from the field in their 79-62 SLIAC win over the Lady Red Devils on Saturday.

Westminster (16-5, 13-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) stretched its season-high win streak to nine games.

The Lady Blue Jays hit 49 percent (30-of-61) from the floor, while knocking down 12-of-25 attempts from 3-point range. Westminster led by as many as 13 points in the opening half before taking a 33-26 cushion into halftime.

The Lady Blue Jays completed the season sweep of Eureka with a 46-36 second-half scoring advantage.

Junior guard Kasey Gatson sparked Westminster with a game-high 24 points. Gatson connected on 10-of-20 field goals, including a 4-of-8 clip from long distance.

Junior guard Sadie Theroff scored 16 points, while also going 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward Andrea Zalis tallied 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds as the Lady Blue Jays held a 35-23 advantage on the glass.

Lady Red Devils guard Kelsey Shoemake logged a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Guards Emily Camden and Jenna Brooks scored 15 and 11 points, respectively, for Eureka (12-10, 9-6 SLIAC).

The Lady Red Devils shot 36 percent (24-of-66) from the field.

Westminster hosted SLIAC opponent Iowa Wesleyan on Monday. Results were not available at press time.
