No. 25 William Woods splits games at Joplin Baseball Tournament

The Owls wrapped up their first day at the Joplin Tournament with a 6-1 victory over Benedictine College on Friday.

William Woods University (4-2) was blanked by Midland University 1-0 in its tournament opener earlier Friday.

Senior Ryan Yuengel threw four scoreless innings of relief to garner the win for the Owls against Benedictine. Yuengel scattered three hits, struck out four and issued a walk. Senior starter Adam Brush allowed one run in three innings.

Junior Jordan Dey finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in to direct William Woods at the plate. Junior Larry Price was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, while senior Austin Clapp was 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Junior starter John Cavness threw six shutout innings in Friday's opener. Midland scored the game's lone run off senior reliever James Ball to secure the victory.

William Woods continued tournament play against Midland and Benedictine on Saturday. Results were not available at press time.
