Westminster women roll to eight win in a row

The Lady Blue Jays extended their season-high win streak to eight games with a 75-42 blowout of the Lady Saints on Thursday night at Westminster Gymnasium.

Westminster College (15-5) led by as many as 26 points in the first half and rolled into halftime with a 40-17 advantage.

Sophomore forward Andrea Zalis paced the Lady Blue Jays with 11 points and five rebounds.

Junior guards Kasey Gatson, Mackenzie Haddox and Sadie Theroff scored eight points apiece as Westminster shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from the field and decisively outrebounded Central Christian 30-16.

Katelynn Frazier posted a game-high 13 points for the Lady Saints (12-6), while Tianna Terry scored 12. Central Christian shot 34 percent (19-of-56) as a team.

Not much stopped the Lady Blue Jays' offense in their 87-52 SLIAC home romp of MacMurray (Illinois) College on Wednesday night.

Westminster (12-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) carried a 42-26 lead into the break, then outscored the Lady Highlanders 45-26 in the second half.

The Lady Blue Jays shot 57 percent (32-of-56) as a team and supplemented their offense with a 14-of-15 effort from the free-throw line.

Gatson was nearly perfect from the field, tallying a game-high 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Gatson converted both of her 3-pointers and all six of her free throws.

Haddox added 15 points and Zalis finished with 11.

Zalis and sophomore forward Krista Armontrout both had seven rebounds to share game-high honors as Westminster held a 33-22 advantage on the boards.

Megan Dulsen, Kaydee Carmody and Breezy Walton had nine points apiece for MacMurray (5-16, 3-11 SLIAC). The Lady Highlanders shot 41 percent (18-of-44) from the field.

The Lady Blue Jays hit the road for a SLIAC encounter with Eureka (Illinois) College at 1 p.m. Saturday. Westminster toppled the Lady Red Devils 75-41 on Jan. 10 in Fulton.
