No. 9 New Bloomfield girls move past Chamois in SMC finale

The state-ranked Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Pirates 18-7 in the third quarter to 48-38 prevail in their Show-Me Conference finale Tuesday night.

New Bloomfield (20-4, 6-2 SMC) - ranked No. 9 in Class 2 - trailed 22-15 at halftime, but closed the third quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 33-29 edge into the final 8 minute.

The Lady Wildcats' offense then spread the floor, opting to post up Chamois' guards. New Bloomfield sealed the victory by outscoring the Lady Pirates 15-9 in the fourth quarter.

"We had to find a good balance of pushing it when we needed to push it and pulling it out when we needed to pull it out," Lady Wildcats head coach Brett Craighead said.

New Bloomfield senior forward Ashley Kelley tallied a team-high 15 points. Freshman guard Madi Craighead added 11 points, while senior guard Sydni Bedsworth scored eight.

Cheyenne Heymeyer topped Chamois with a game-high 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Paige Nolte finished with 11 points.

Sophomore guard Kate Baxter's team-high 13 points pushed the Lady Wildcats (7-2) to a 39-13 junior varsity victory over Sturgeon at home on Monday night. Sophomore guard Baylee Garrett finished with 10 points, while sophomore forward Madison Love added nine.

New Bloomfield closes out the regular season at home against Southern Boone in a tripleheader with the junior varsity boys and girls at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18.
