MSD boys bow to Malta Bend

The Eagles' losing streak reached three games after a 48-39 home loss to the Tigers on Monday night.

MSD (7-7) led 7-5 after one quarter, but was outscored 21-8 in the second quarter and trailed 26-15 at halftime. The Eagles registered just three points in the third quarter, falling behind 38-18.

Junior forward Benson Goodwin logged eight of his team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles outscored Malta Bend 22-10.

Sophomore guard Ste'Quan Scott also tallied 12 points, nine steals and six rebounds for MSD. Junior guard Joseph Allen finished with 10 points, six steals and a blocked shot.

Larry Edde finished with a game-high 19 points for the Tigers. Zach Matler chipped in with 11 points as Malta Bend avenged a 38-35 home loss to MSD on Dec. 18.

The Eagles are the No. 4 seed in the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf Tournament at the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs. MSD - the defending tournament champion - plays No. 5 seed Arkansas in the first round at 2 p.m. Thursday.
