Westminster men blow by Blackburn

The Blue Jays scored 29 points off 23 Beaver turnovers in posting a 61-44 SLIAC triumph on Saturday.

Westminster (4-16, 3-10 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) limited Blackburn to just 32 percent shooting (13-of-41) to complete the season sweep.

After leading 32-25 at halftime, the Blue Jays outscored the Beavers 29-19 in the second half to win for a second time in their last three outings.

Sophomore Tanner Gentges knocked down 5-of-6 3-pointers to tally a game-high 19 points. Senior Verdis Lee Jr. - a Fulton High graduate - finished with 12 points and a team-high five rebounds, while freshman guard Tanner Cochran added 11 points.

Westminster finished 40 percent (23-of-57) from the field, while hitting 11-of-25 from long distance.

Chris Davis posted 13 points to lead Blackburn (4-16, 3-11 SLIAC). Jamie Moore led the Beavers with eight rebounds as they ended the game with a 32-30 rebounding edge.

The Blue Jays return home for a SLIAC matchup with MacMurray (Illinois) College at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Westminster bowed to the Highlanders 76-64 on Jan. 3 in Jacksonville, Illinois.
