North Callaway girls use defense to top EMO foe Wright City

The Ladybirds allowed a season-low point total in cruising to a 55-16 Eastern Missouri Conference win over the Lady Wildcats on Monday.

North Callaway (14-7, 6-1 EMO) led 13-8 after a quarter, then allowed just six points for the rest of the game. The Ladybirds took a 29-10 advantage into halftime.

"We guarded extremely, extremely well and I don't care who you play, if you're holding a team under 20 points, you're having a good defensive night," North Callaway head coach Matt Miller said.

Senior guard Elaine Brinker tallied game highs of 11 points, five assists and four steals for the Ladybirds. Junior guard Erinn Bush and freshman guard Kyla Bertschinger each scored eight points, while junior forward Taylor Wiseman added seven.

Bush led North Callaway with three rebounds.

Orlanda Hill tallied seven points to lead Wright City.

The Ladybirds prevailed 46-19 in the junior varsity game. Freshmen guards Nicole Emmons and Reyna Schmauch scored 11 and 10 points, respectively for North Callaway (10-4).

The Ladybirds play an EMO contest at Silex at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
