Westminster women top Greenville in overtime

Junior guard Kasey Gatson's bucket with 58 seconds remaining in overtime lifted the Lady Blue Jays to a 74-71 SLIAC triumph over the Lady Panthers on Saturday at Westminster Gymnasium.

The victory is the fifth in a row for Westminster (11-5, 9-2 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). The Lady Blue Jays outscored Greenville 12-9 in the extra period.

A jumper by Lady Panther Laura Goodnight with 1:25 seconds left in regulation knotted the game at 62-all to force an extra period.

Gatson led all scorers with 24 points as four Westminster starters finished in double figures. Junior guard Sadie Theroff added 18 points, while junior guard Mackenzie Haddox added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Sophomore forward Andrea Zalis finished with 10 points as the Lady Blue Jays shot 37 percent (23-of-62) from the field.

Taylor Paulin scored 17 points to pace Greenville (8-9, 5-6 SLIAC). Claire Schmitt contributed 13 points and Goodnight chipped in with 10 points, helping the Lady Panthers shoot 44 percent (27-of-61) from the floor.

Westminster outrebounded Greenville 42-35 to avenge a 50-40 road loss on Dec. 6.

The Lady Blue Jays stay home for a SLIAC tilt with Iowa Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Westminster upended the Lady Tigers 67-43 on Jan. 14 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
