Second-half slump sinks William Woods men

The Owls were outscored 36-19 in the second half of their 73-57 American Midwest Conference loss to the Eagles on Saturday at Anderson Arena.

William Woods (8-14, 5-9 AMC) led Williams Baptist 38-37 to start the second half, but the team's traded the lead back and forth over the first 10 minutes of the session.

Brown's free throw with 9 minutes, 30 seconds remaining gave the Eagles a 57-56 lead and sparked a 10-1 spurt to push the margin to double digits.

Owls junior guard Austin Lowery tallied a career-high 20 points to lead all players. Senior forward Nate Bitner added 12 points as William Woods finished 43 percent (22-of-51) from the field.

Senior forward Derrick Hayes' team-high five rebounds paced the Owls, who were outrebounded 37-31.

James McClain notched 18 points to lead four double-digit scorers for Williams Baptist (11-8, 10-5 AMC). Tevin Howard and Abel Yekeh each finished with 14 points, while Carter Clerveaux added 11 points.

Howard's eight rebounds led the Eagles, who shot 46 percent (29-of-63) from the floor.

William Woods hits the road for an AMC contest at Lyon (Ark.) College at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The Scots edged past the Owls 45-42 on Dec. 18 in Fulton.
