Lady Owls best Williams Baptist, claim eighth straight win

Senior guard Blake French tallied a game-high 16 points, sparking the Lady Owls to a 71-64 American Midwest Conference win over the Williams Baptist Lady Eagles on Saturday at Anderson Arena.

William Woods (16-5, 12-4 AMC) notched its season-best eighth consecutive win, while completing the series sweep of the the Lady Eagles.

Williams Baptist trailed 34-28 to start the second half, but used a 15-6 run over the first 4 minutes, 55 seconds of the half to take a three-point lead.

The Lady Owls regained the lead at 46-43 on sophomore forward Kelsey Scherder's 3-pointer with 12:33 remaining in the game. William Woods pushed its lead as high as 12 points in locking up the win.

Junior forward Nia Lateju logged 14 points, while junior guard Dennisha Rice finished with 10 for the Lady Owls.

William Woods prevailed despite shooting just 33 percent (22-of-67) from the field. Sophomore center Kennedy Volkart pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds as the Lady Owls were outgained 44-39 on the glass.

Alisha Stone posted 15 points to pace Williams Baptist (8-13, 7-9 AMC). Jasmine Ford added 12 points, while Porsche Hall led the team with 10 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles shot 43 percent (26-of-60) from the floor and connected on 11-of-19 3-point attempts.

William Woods plays an AMC road game at Lyon (Ark.) College at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Owls bowed to the Lady Scots 52-43 on Dec. 18 in Fulton.
