Lady Blue Jays' win streak ends in Missouri S&T loss

ROLLA - The Westminster College Lady Blue Jays shot just 36 percent as their four-game winning streak ended in Tuesday night's 76-57 non-conference loss to the NCAA Division II Missouri S&T Lady Miners.

Westminster College (4-2) scored the game's first six points on respective 3-pointers from senior guard Sadie Theroff and junior guard Andrea Zalis, and the Lady Blue Jays eventually led 13-7. Missouri S&T, though, closed the first quarter with an 11-2 run to go in front 18-15.

The Lady Miners (4-3) went into halftime with a 37-30 advantage and took command by outscoring Westminster 21-9 in the third quarter, widening their lead to 58-39.

Junior forward Krista Armontrout - who was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line - finished with 13 points to direct the Lady Blue Jays, who made just 19-of-53 shots as a team. Senior guard Kasey Gatson also supplied 12 points.

Senior guard Mackenzie Haddox collected a team-high six rebounds for Westminster, which was outrebounded by a decisive 38-23 margin. The Lady Blue Jays were also outscored 38-18 in the paint.

Joe'l Bland came off the bench to spur four players in double figures with a game-high 16 points for Missouri S&T, which shot 53 percent (30-of-57) from the field. Jamy Douvier added 14 points in a reserve role, while Raetchel Gray contributed 11 and Bria Pierce had 10.

Westminster returns home to face Iowa Wesleyan University in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Lady Blue Jays are 2-0 in the SLIAC after a 78-64 home win over Greenville (Ill.) College last Saturday.
