Owls soccer team turns back Graceland in opener

LAMONI, Iowa - Sophomore defender Conor Foxall's scoring strike in the 51st minute put the William Woods University Owls soccer team in front to stay in a 3-1 season-opening victory over Graceland Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore midfielder Lendell Louis-Jacques assisted on the goal, which broke a 1-all tie that had lasted since the 28th minute. William Woods senior midfielder Alex Severino put away an unassisted goal in the 20th minute to open scoring, but Graceland midfielder Cody Blentlinger responded with the tying score via defender Sebastian Pineda Gordillo's assist.

Owls junior defender Anthony Moscatello's unassisted goal in the 71st minute provided the final margin. William Woods prevailed despite the Sting's 11-8 edge in shots. Owls junior goalkeeper Bridger Pretz logged a save.

William Woods opens it home schedule against Avila University at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
