North Callaway stifles Van-Far in EMO opener

Junior starter Taylor Wilson threw four scoreless innings and drove in the decisive runs in the Ladybirds' 9-0 triumph over the Lady Indians in both team's Eastern Missouri Conference opener on Thursday evening.

Wilson struck out three, gave up three hits and walked in the win. She plated two runs with two outs in the bottom of the first after reaching base on an error by the Van-Far shortstop.

"I thought she did a great job," North Callaway head coach Brandi Thomsen said. "She's coming back from a couple of knee surgeries. She pushed through and I am very proud of how she did."

The Ladybirds (3-0, 1-0 EMO) padded their advantage with a five-run outbreak in the second. Freshman pinch-hitter Cameran Knipp cleared the bases with a one-out, three-run triple and sophomore left fielder Kallie Lehenbauer drove in two more with a two-out double.

North Callaway tallied its final two runs in the fourth. The Lady Indians (1-2, 0-1 EMO) were hitless after the second inning.

Lehenbauer went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a walk. Knipp was 1-for-1 and senior second baseman Karlie Popp was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, a walk and an RBI.

The Ladybirds travel to Wright City for an EMO clash at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
