A focused effort helped the Fulton Lady Hornets volleyball team maintain their spotless start.
Senior setter Kenzie Shaw's 18 assists sparked the Lady Hornets to a 25-18, 25-18 victory over the Marshall Lady Owls to kickoff North Central Missouri Conference play on Thursday night at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.
"They did a good job of keeping the momentum in our favor," Fulton head coach Megan Youse said. "There was maybe one lull where the Marshall team got momentum and the team came out of the timeout and we got a great momentum play by Kate Pani."
Senior right-side hitter Madi Tobias served four aces for the Lady Hornets (2-0, 1-0 NCMC). Pani tallied a team-high 13 digs, while senior middle hitter Hannah Cerda and sophomore middle hitter Jaiden Saunders each posted five digs.
Fulton improved to 2-0 in JV play with a 25-18, 25-16 win. Junior outside hitter Sydney Dungan had six aces and six kills and junior setter Colleen Van Norman collected 17 assists.
In freshman play, the Lady Hornets and Lady Owls managed a split. Fulton dropped the first set 25-18 and then prevailed in the second frame 25-16 to move its mark to 1-0-1.
The Lady Hornets travel to Blair Oaks for a non-conference clash at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
