Fulton gets first win, moves past Marshall in NCMC opener

Sophomore starter Kendalyn Roesner pitched a complete game and drove in three runs as the Lady Hornets picked up their first win 9-3 over the Lady Owls to open North Central Missouri Conference play on Thursday.

Roesner (1-2) struck out three, gave up three runs - one earned - on 10 hits, walked one and finished 2-for-4 swinging the bat for Fulton.

"We supported our pitcher tonight which was crucial in keeping Marshall at three runs," Lady Hornets head coach Laura Dooley-Wilder said.

Fulton (1-2, 1-0 NCMC) opened scoring with one in the top of the first, then scored twice in the second. The Lady Hornets added two runs in the four, tallied one each in the fifth and sixth then topped off the day with two runs in the seventh.

Marshall plated a run in the second, one in the fourth and its final in the seventh.

Sophomore second baseman Emma Abbott was 3-for-3 with four runs scored, an RBI and three steals. Freshman center fielder Grace Sparks went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of steals, while freshman third baseman Makenzie Johnson went 3-for-5 with two driven in.

Fulton rang up 13 hits while committing a lone error.

The Lady Hornets prevailed 10-1 in the JV game to even their record at 1-1.

Fulton hosts NCMC foe Hannibal at 5 p.m. Monday.
