The Lady Hornets opened the season on the losing end of a 9-0 North Central Missouri Conference shutout to the Lady Pirates on Monday at the high school athletic complex.

•No. 1 singles: Caitlyn Bueler (H) def. freshman Mary Schnoebelen (F) 10-4; No. 2: Ashlyn Nichols (H) def. sophomore Laura Bailey (F) 10-3; No. 3: Alexis Houser (H) def. junior Addie Zimmer (F) 10-7; No. 4: Haily Yarrington (H) def. junior Elizabeth Barbour (F) 10-5; No. 5: Grace Deien (H) def. junior Erin Latham (F) 10-5; No. 6: Shelby Heibel (H) def. sophomore Jenna Young (F) 10-1.

"The girls bounced back well after the lopsided doubles losses and played much better in singles," Fulton head coach Louis Schnoebelen said. "The girls are looking forward to learning from the match and using it as strong motivation to improve."
The Lady Hornets travel to Columbia to take on the Battle Lady Spartans at 4:30 p.m. today.
