Fulton girls bow to Hannibal in tennis opener

The Lady Hornets opened the season on the losing end of a 9-0 North Central Missouri Conference shutout to the Lady Pirates on Monday at the high school athletic complex.

Here are Monday's singles and doubles results:

•No. 1 singles: Caitlyn Bueler (H) def. freshman Mary Schnoebelen (F) 10-4; No. 2: Ashlyn Nichols (H) def. sophomore Laura Bailey (F) 10-3; No. 3: Alexis Houser (H) def. junior Addie Zimmer (F) 10-7; No. 4: Haily Yarrington (H) def. junior Elizabeth Barbour (F) 10-5; No. 5: Grace Deien (H) def. junior Erin Latham (F) 10-5; No. 6: Shelby Heibel (H) def. sophomore Jenna Young (F) 10-1.

•No. 1 doubles: Heibel/Bueler (H) def. Schnoebelen/Bailey (F) 10-3; No. 2: Houser/Yarrington (H) def. Zimmer/Barbour 10-0; No. 3: Nichols/Deien (H) def. Latham/Young (F) 10-1.

"The girls bounced back well after the lopsided doubles losses and played much better in singles," Fulton head coach Louis Schnoebelen said. "The girls are looking forward to learning from the match and using it as strong motivation to improve."

The Lady Hornets travel to Columbia to take on the Battle Lady Spartans at 4:30 p.m. today.
