Fulton basketball coach Shaw dies unexpectedly

A moment of silence was observed before Friday night's football opener for Fulton boys' basketball coach Ryan Shaw, who died unexpectedly Friday afternoon in South Carolina.

The 43-year-old Shaw was there on business when he was hospitalized after suffering a brain aneurysm while exercising Thursday night.

"Ryan was a great coach and was well-liked by his team, his players and the faculty," Fulton Public Schools superintendent Dr. Jacque Cowherd said. "He will be missed and we will do everything to support his family."

Shaw's wife, Lori, is a third-grade teacher at Bartley Elementary. Their daughter, McKenzie, is a senior at Fulton High School and their son, Jordan, is a sophomore.

Shaw coached the Hornets for three seasons after stints in Warrenton, Springfield and Potosi.
