A Fulton resident was shot at his home at 308 West Chestnut in Fulton early Monday afternoon, and a suspect was identified and arrested by Fulton police a short time later.

Cyrus Coy, age 20, was arrested for domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action, according to a Fulton police statement. Coy is presently being held on a $50,000 bond at the Callaway County Jail.

The shooting victim was identified by police as Morgan Patton, age 34, of Fulton. According to the police statement, Morgan sustained a shot wound to his leg and was transported to Columbia for treatment.

According to a neighbor, a domestic dispute involving Patton and Coy was possibly the catalyst for the incident. Patton's wife made the 911 call, and a fourth person, described as a woman by witnesses, was also taken into custody, but was not identified or charged as of press time.

"I was just inside my house and heard a gunshot. So we stepped outside and I saw my neighbor come out on his porch with a gunshot to his leg. I don't know what they were arguing about, but we heard him screaming," Clint Timbrook said.

"And then his wife came out saying he got shot and we saw him laying on the ground in a pool of blood. So we tied his leg up and his wife called 911. Not long after the paramedics picked him up and took him to the hospital." he said.

Both Fulton police and Timbrook said that after the shooting, Coy left the residence in a truck, later identified as a Ford Ranger, and was seen driving south on Business 54. The police statement said that weapon allegedly used in the incident was discovered in the truck.

"The two people who done it took off down the road. I think they got caught down the street," Timbrook said.

Timbrook called the incident "a once in a lifetime thing."

Timbrook and a pair of friends were at home Monday afternoon with two babies when the shooting occurred.

Police statements said Patton and Coy were roommates; Timbrook said "They had been staying with them a while," but he didn't know the nature of their relationship.

The police statement, however, never identified the cause or escalation of the dispute between the men.

"We saw him get in his truck with his pistol and take off down the road, just as calm as can be," Timbrook said.

According to the police report, dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a gunshot victim at approximately 1:28 p.m. Fulton police had the entire 300th block sealed off for approximately 40 minutes.
