3 teens, JC woman killed in head-on accident on U.S. 54

Four people were killed in a wrong-way wreck near Holts Summit Saturday night just before midnight.

Three teenage girls from Holts Summit and a Jefferson City woman were killed in the two-vehicle accident in Callaway County.

Pronounced dead at the scene were Meggan Fowler, 13, Miriah C. McDaniel, 17, Elizabeth K. Moses, 17, all of Holts Summit, and Kathryn A. Zavoral, 27, Jefferson City.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred at 11:58 p.m. as a vehicle driven by McDaniel was eastbound in the passing lane on U.S. 54, about 1 mile west of Center Street. A vehicle driven by Zavoral westbound in the eastbound passing lane struck McDaniel's vehicle head-on. Zavoral's vehicle overturned, partly ejecting her, and caught on fire.

All subjects were pronounced dead at the scene at 11:59 p.m. by Boone County Medical Examiner Dori Burke. No one involved was wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

This was Troop F's 33rd-36th fatality for 2015.
