No. 5 Lady Owls march to 12th straight AMC title

Freshman Celia Mansour locked up the individual title in directing the fifth-ranked William Woods University women to their 12th consecutive American Midwest Conference championship Tuesday at Redfield Golf Course.

The Lady Owls eased their way to the title, triumphing by 57 strokes with a 10-over par 586 team total (296-290). Freed-Hardeman (Tennessee) University was a distant second with a 643, while Park University took third with a 673. Columbia College came in fourth with a 688.

William Woods - with all of its golfers claiming the top five individual spots - secured the AMC's automatic bid to the NAIA national championships, scheduled for May 12-15 in Pooler, Georgia.

Mansour led the way for the Lady Owls by winning the individual title with a 2-under 142 (72-70), the only golfer to finish under par at the championships. Junior Myriam Hassan (79-70) and freshman Katie Warren (75-74) tied for second place with a pair of 149s.

Defending champion Jodie Peacock, a junior, came in fourth with a 150 (74-76), while freshman Megan Cullen took fifth with a 151 (75-76).

Mansour was named both the AMC player of the year and freshman of the year. She was joined on the all-AMC team by Hassan, Warren, Peacock, Cullen and freshman Andrea Agniel.

William Woods' Barry Doty was also named AMC coach of the year.
