MSD's Goodwin wins high jump at GPSD championships

Eagles senior Benson Goodwin took top honors boys' high jump at the Great Plains School for the Deaf championships on Saturday.

Goodwin posted a winning jump of 5 feet, 10 inches, one of four top-five finishes for him on the day. Goodwin placed third in the 300-meter hurdles in :47.2 and was fourth in the long jump with a jump of 18 even.

MSD's 400 relay team of seniors Joseph Allen, Jeff Porter, Noe Garcia and sophomore Ste'Quan Scott placed first in :48.3.

The 800 relay quartet of Allen, Porter, Garcia and Scott took second in 1:45.2. Allen was second in the 200 (:25.0), while Porter took third in :25.2. Porter garnered second in the 400 (:56.3) and Scott earned third in the 800 with a run of 2:30,

Owens collected fourth in the 100 (:12.25) and picked up fifth in the long jump in 17-10. Garcia finished fourth in the discus at 99-3 and earned sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of :22.58.

Sophomore Elizabeth Harrison was the runner up in the girls' 400 with a result of 1:07. She placed third in the 200 (:30.9) and tied for third in the high jump with a leap of 4-4. Harrison placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 14-3.

Sophomore Avalon Saxton earned fourth in the 100 in :15.3, placed fifth in the 400 in 1:17, then got sixth in the 200 with a time of :32.3.

Sophomore Madonna Moore took fourth in the 3,200 in 18:56, while freshman Melissa Davis placed sixth in 19:50. Senior Joyla Ingram clocked a time of 1:04 to earn fifth in the 300 hurdles.

The team of Davis, Ingram, Moore and Saxton finished fifth in the 400 relay with a time of 1:03.

MSD competes at the Class 1, District 1 championships in Festus on Saturday, May 9.
