Blue Jays, Lady Blue Jays each take third at SLIAC championships

Junior Brier Skogsberg and freshmen Taylor Howard and Shannon McCaul posted individual victories in powering the Westminster women to a third-place showing at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships on Saturday.

Skogsberg won the 10,000-meter run in a school-record time of 40 minutes, 25 seconds. Howard - a South Callaway graduate - was the only entrant in the women's pole vault, thus won with a height of 2.15 meters.

McCaul set a school record in the 3,000 steeplechase with a victorious time 12:07.30. Howard and seniors Danielle Smulczenski, Nyima Njie and Tanisha Terrell won the 1,600 relay in 4:11.17 as the Lady Blue Jays collected 118 points. Webster (168) took the women's team title, while host Greenville (150) placed second.

The Westminster men garnered collected 89 points, trailing host Greenville (242) and runner up Webster (89).

Terrell took second in the 200 (:26.47) and third in the 100 (:12.81). Howard was second in the triple jump with a leap of 10.3, then grabbed third in the 400 (1:01.67) and the 400 hurdles (1:10.83).

Skogsberg was third in the 5,000 with a run of 20:37.64.

Freshman Marla Rains was second in the long jump in a distance of 4.62, while earning third in the high jump at 1.32. Smulczenski clocked fourth in the 400 in 1:01.78 and Njie followed in fifth with a time of 1:02.28.

Freshmen Glenn Teubner (10:42.68) and Chandler Yeary (11:05.38) took placed second and third in the men's 3,000 steeplechase. Senior Daniel Lindaman earned third in the 5,000 with a time of 16:33.88, while junior Jesse Edwards was fourth in 16:38.3.

Edwards logged an additional fourth-place showing in the 10,000 with a result of 33:42.66.

Freshman Addison Conway ran fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.7. Sophomore Ryan Dyer logged fifth in the 800 (2:01.76), while senior Dan Breihan clocked a :53.75 in the 400, also good for fifth place.

The quartet of Breihan, Conway, Tjikuzu placed fourth in the 400 relay with a time of :46.5.

Conway (11.54) and Breighan (11.45) were second and third, respectively, in the triple jump. Robertson was second in the javelin with a toss of 50.48, while freshman Sam Kroll-Taugsolo took third in 47.75.

Freshman Logan Shoemaker's throw of 13.55 in the shot put earned him second place, while Kroll-Taugsolo placed fourth with a top throw of 12.55. Senior Michael Lutz was third in the hammer throw with a distance of 40.97.

Breihan, Conway, Dyer and sophomore TJ Tjikuzu earned third in the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:39.26.

Smulczenski (29.68) and Njie (29.45) earned third and fourth place, respectively, in the javelin throw.
