Lady Owls push win streak to seven with convincing AMC sweep

A healthy amount of hitting helped the William Woods University Lady Owls bring a quick end to their season-ending American Midwest Conference doubleheader.

William Woods swept a doubleheader with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics on Thursday, prevailing 11-2 in the six-inning opener and then rolling to a 13-0, five-inning win in the second game.

The Lady Owls (27-22, 16-8 AMC) closed out the regular season on a seven-game winning streak and are now a season-high five games over .500.

Sophomore Hillary Hentges' pinch-hit grand slam highlighted an eight-run sixth for the Lady Owls in the first game. Down 2-0 after three innings, William Woods scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth before its breakout in the sixth.

Sophomore third baseman Madison McCormick was 2-for-3 with three RBI, a pair of doubles and two runs scored as the Lady Owls racked up eight hits. Redshirt sophomore right fielder Brailee Schulte went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and scored twice.

Freshman starter Allison Waskow struck out six and went the distance for the win. Waskow allowed two earned runs on four hits and walked one.

Senior starter Julie Scheer pitched a two-hit shutout and cranked out four hits for William Woods in the final game. Scheer struck out six and didn't allow a walk in the triumph, while going 4-for-4 with a double, three runs batted in and two runs scored to spearhead the Lady Owls' 13-hit assault.

Junior shortstop Shelby LeCuru also finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, a double and a run scored. Junior designated hitter Sydnae Hatton went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while five other William Woods players each collected a hit.
