Owls' Houlding, Wells share individual title at Illinois tourney

MACOMB, Ill. - With sophomores David Houlding and Matt Wells splitting the individual championship, the third-ranked William Woods University men's golf team came away with the team title at the Beu/Mussatto Invitational on Tuesday.

Houlding (75-71-73) and Wells (72-72-75) shot a pair of 3-over 219s to share the title in a field mostly represented by NCAA Division I golfers. The Owls secured the team championship with a 28-over 892 (301-289-302), while Bradley University was second (895), and Indian Hills Community College third (910).

Senior Stan Gautier also took 11th for William Woods with a 228 (77-73-78), while freshman Alasdair McDougall (78-73-81) and senior Julian Taylor (77-79-76) tied for 19th with a pair of 232s.

The Owls compete May 4-5 at the American Midwest Conference championships in Cape Girardeau.
