Eugene's comeback stifles Wildcats' win streak

NEW BLOOMFIELD - The New Bloomfield Wildcats watched their four-game winning streak snapped after the Eugene Eagles rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh inning for a 7-6 win in Tuesday night's SMC clash.

New Bloomfield opened up a 6-2 edge when it tallied two runs in the fifth, but Eugene responded by putting up two runs in the sixth to close the gap. The Eagles then tallied their decisive three runs in the seventh, all with two outs, on a two-run triple and an RBI double to jolt the Wildcats.

Senior center fielder Tucker Lane went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored as New Bloomfield (4-7, 0-3 Show-Me Conference) recorded 11 hits. Lane had an RBI single in the first and an RBI sacrifice fly in the third.

Senior third baseman Brady Wiler was also 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the fourth, while junior starter Derek Shikles finished 2-for-4 with a two-run single in the fifth. Junior shortstop Grant Nichols went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, and senior left fielder Sam Niedergerke was 1-for-3 with a double and scored once.

Shikles was pinned with the loss, surrendering seven runs - five earned - on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He posted three strikeouts and walked two.

The Wildcats remain at home for an SMC encounter against Tuscumbia at 5 p.m. today.
