Harrison sparks MSD girls to third-place finish at Belle

Sophomore Elizabeth Harrison racked up wins in four events to power the Missouri School for the Deaf girls as they came in third overall at the Belle Invitational on Thursday.

In the boys' division, junior Terrell Owens triumphed in one event and took fourth in another to help MSD to a fifth-place team finish.

Harrison was victorious in both the 200 and 400 meters with respective times of 29.62 seconds and 1 minute, 6.65 seconds as the Lady Eagles amassed 95 points. She won the long jump with a distance of 13 feet, 6 inches, and the high jump at 4-3.

Sophomore Avalon Saxton also came in third in the 400 (1:19.62), fourth in the 100 (:15.27) and sixth in the 200 (:32.66) for MSD. Senior Joyla Ingram finished third in the 300 hurdles (1:02.54) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (:23.26), while freshman Melissa Davis was third in the 1,600 (8:02.54) and fourth in the 3,200 (19:09).

Contributing fourth-place finishes for the Lady Eagles were junior Najah White in the shot put (24-7 1/2) and sophomore Madonna Moore in the 1,600 (8:09.78). Moore also took fifth in the 3,200 (19:46).

Ingram, Saxton, Moore and Davis teamed up to place fifth in the 400 relay (1:06.76).

Owens prevailed in the 100 (:12.30) and came in fourth in the shot (31-11 1/2) as the MSD boys tallied 81.5 points. Senior Benson Goodwin chipped in with a pair of second-place finishes in the 300 hurdles (:51.53) and the high jump (5-6).

Junior Joseph Allen also took second in the 200 (:25.28), tied for fourth in the high jump (5-0), and placed sixth in the 100 (:12.97). Senior Jeff Porter produced a third-place finish in the long jump (17-2), was fourth in the 400 (:59.72), and came in sixth in the 200 (:26.73).

The 400 relay of Allen, Goodwin, Porter and Owens took second in :51.07, while sophomore Ste'Quan Scott placed fourth in the 800 (2:25.16) and sixth in the discus (85-8). Junior Noe Garcia finished sixth in the 300 hurdles (:59.20).

Owensville completed a sweep of the girls' and boys' team titles with 130 and 124 points, respectively.

MSD competes in the Blue and Gold Relays at Fatima at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
