WWU's Zink, Dos Santos, Sanders qualify for NAIA Outdoor Nationals

Owl senior Nick Zink and junior teammate Gabriel Dos Santos each secured a slot at the NAIA Outdoor National Championship with their respective performances at the Darrel Gouley Open on Saturday.

Zink ran the 400-meter dash in 48.46 seconds to eclipse the event's NAIA National "B' Standard. Dos Santos earned third place in the 100, running a personal-best time of :10.74 to fall inside the NAIA "B' Standard.

Senior Lee Anna Sanders - competing at the St. Louis Marathon and Family Fitness Weekend on Sunday - took eighth place in her age group with a time of 1:28.32 to hit the NAIA "A' Standard in the marathon.

Junior Kaleb Wilson logged William Woods' only victory at the Gourley Open in the 1,500, posting a personal best of 4:10.23 as the Owls (48 points) finished seventh in the team standings.

Junior Rhett Cook placed fourth in the 200 with a time of :22.01. He teamed with Zink, junior Martell Washington and freshman Denver Horn to run a fifth-place time of 3:21.72 in the 1,600 relay.

Three Lady Owls set new personal bests as the team collected 38.5 points, good for seventh place.

Freshmen Madelyn Scrivner (11.9 meters) and Erin Neuner (33.06) finished third in the shot put and discus, respectively.

The 1,600 relay quartet of redshirt senior Madeline Emme, junior Petra Bethea and freshmen Hannah Rutherford and Megan Wilson took fourth in a time of 4:18.47.

Bethea earned sixth in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 4.87. Junior Dominica Prokup also set a personal best, finishing sixth in the 100 hurdles in a time of :15.79.

Freshman Grace Young took 16th in the 1,500 with a new personal high of 4:51.19.

Both teams will compete at the Kansas Relays beginning Thursday in Lawrence, Kansas.
