William Woods splits AMC doubleheader with Lyon

The Lady Scots tallied a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to upend the Lady Owls and earn a American Midwest Conference twinbill split on Saturday at Backer Sports Complex.

William Woods (19-20, 8-6 AMC) out-hit Lyon 13-10 on the day and had the tying run at the plate when the closing contest concluded by a score of 5-3.

Lady Owls freshman Allison Waskow took the complete-game loss, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Junior left fielder Sydnae Hatton finished 3-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, while redshirt sophomore right fielder Brailee Scultee was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Sophomore center fielder Hannah Campbell went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, while senior catcher Macy Wierschem was 2-for-4.

Freshman Bre Logan's two-hit shutout lifted William Woods to an 8-0 six-inning triumph in the opener. Logan scattered just two hits, walked a pair and struck out three.

The Lady Owls posted two runs in the bottom of the first, added four more in the fourth, then finished with two in the sixth.

Wierschem finished 2-f0r-2 with two RBIs, a double and a run scored as six William Woods players finished with two hits. Hatton was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and a run scored, junior catcher Emily Murphy went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Schulte was 2-for-2 with an RBI, a double and two runs scored.

Junior shortstop Shelby LeCuru was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Campbell finished 2-for-2.

The Lady Owls host an AMC doubleheader against Columbia College today. Games begin at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively.
