Westminster, Blackburn split SLIAC twinbill

Sophomore pitcher Alyson Hahn threw a complete game and belted a home run to help her cause as the Lady Blue Jays topped the Beavers and earn a SLIAC doubleheader split on Saturday.

Westminster (9-13, 6-3 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) won the closing game 8-1, while the Blue Jays bowed 7-5 in the opener.

Westminster pushed ahead 5-0 on Hahn's solo shot in the top of the third inning of the second game.

On the mound, Hahn fanned five and allowed an earned run on four hits.

Freshman right fielder Katherine Cooper was 2-for-2 with an RBI, a double and a run scored. Sophomore catcher Alyssa Johnson was 1-for-3 with three RBIs, Hahn was 1-for-3, while freshman left fielder Kim Morrison was 1-for-3 with a double as the Lady Blue Jays racked up 11 hits.

Westminster bowed to Blackburn (3-18, 3-8 SLIAC) in the opener despite out-hitting the Beavers 14-8.

The Lady Blue Jays tallied a run in the first and two in the second, but Blackburn evened the game with three runs in the third. The Beavers took a one run lead in the fourth, but Hahn's two-run single in the fifth helped Westminster reclaim control at 5-4.

Blackburn went in front for good with two runs in the bottom of the frame, then posted another in the sixth to close out scoring.

Morrison tripled to highlight a 4-for-4 outing. Freshman starter Abby Bartley (South Callaway) was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore third baseman Anne Baker was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Hahn was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and took the loss for the Lady Blue Jays in two innings of relief. She struck out three, but allowed an earned run on two hits.

Bartley struck out two in four innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits, while walking one.

Westminster returns home for a SLIAC doubleheader against MacMurray on Wednesday. Games will start at 4 and 6 p.m., respectively.
